Crews battle brush fires in South Jersey

Courier-Post

TRENTON — A series of large brush fires in Burlington County kept state crews busy Sunday night into Monday, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

At least eight brush fires — the largest of which covered more than 25 acres — were contained as of noon Monday, although some were still burning, according to police-scanner reports.

The risk continued throughout the day, as the National Weather Service posted a red flag warning Monday for all of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.

Forecasters say strong winds, low humidity and dry branches create a situation where any brush fires that develop could quickly get out of control.
