Girls’ basketball roundup: Highland wins 19th in a row

Highland High School rolled to its 19 consecutive victory as Azana Baines collected 26 points and 15 rebounds to power a 77-48 triumph over Gloucester County Tech in Tri-County Conference girls’ basketball action on Friday.

The Tartans (19-0), ranked eighth in the Courier-Post Mean 15, reaped 12 points from Tamija Harrison and 11 points, nine boards from Ayanna Bey.

Jessica Beck tallied 21 points and Tori Aversa added 18 for the Cheetahs.

TRI-COUNTY

• Cumberland 61, Penns Grove 19: The Colts (16-2) rolled up a 37-8 advantage in the second half as Vashti Hannah scored 19 points. SyDonnie Dawkins netted 10 and Makayla Pepper added eight for the winners.

OLYMPIC

• Timber Creek 52, Seneca 43: An 18-6 surge in the final stanza carried the 10th-ranked Chargers (13-4) to victory as Summer Pierce netted 15 points and Jazmine Carter chipped in with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Rachel Roseboro led the Golden Eagles with 13 and Emily Metzger scored 10.

BURLCO

• Pemberton 64, Burlington City 36: The host Hornets were able to build up a 29-point lead at the half as Shavonne Smith sparked a balanced scoring attack with 11 points. Lexus Phillips contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Alexandria Sams scored a game-high 22 points for the Blue Devils.

• Westampton Tech 64, Burlington Twp. 33: Dalazia Bailey and Kylan Watkins poured in 12 points apiece to spark the Panthers to victory. Tamecia Ransom collected a game-high 17 for the Falcons.

CAPE-ATLANTIC

• Vineland 44, Bridgeton 40: The Fighting Clan held off a hard charge from the Bulldogs in the final quarter to prevail as Nosaja Echevarria scored 23 points and Chakyra Moss netted eight. Bionce Doyle grabbed 12 rebounds for Vineland. Eniyah Armstead led Bridgeton with 12 points, 11 rebounds and Jadesia Stafford added 10 points.

• Wildwood Catholic 52, Lower Cape May 47: Caitlin McMullan scored 14 points while Eileen McNulty and Noelle Johnson netted 13 apiece to lift the Crusaders (16-2). Olivia Levin topped the Caper Tigers with 15 points and Marissa McGaffney chipped in with 10.

• Middle Twp. 48, Cedar Creek 32: Tied 16-16 at the half, the 11th-seeded Panthers used a 19-9 advantage in the third period to seal the win. Bridget Ruskey scored 14 points to spark Middle Township while teammate Allison Hunter contributed 12. Jazzy Duverglas and Kelsey Kruger netted 12 points each for the Pirates.

NONLEAGUE

• Palmyra 46, Pennsauken Tech 41: Siani Hayes netted 19 points and teammate Mikaela Hawkins tossed in 14 to carry the Panthers to their first win. Tamariah Lowber topped the Tornados with 15 and Esmerelda Gonzalez contributed 10.

• Lindenwold 55, Medford Tech 38: A pair of 12-point efforts by Tamia Robinson and Iasha Beeks (eight rebounds) carried the Lions (5-14) to the win. Shola Karimu Onissema added 10 for the winners, who built a 19-point lead at the intermission. The Jaguars were led by Jordynn Thompson with 12.

• Deptford 62, LEAP 32: Juliette Tobin tossed in 31 points and Brianna Jankaukas added 14 as the Spartans used a 25-10 advantage in the third period to pull away for the win. Stephanie Newkirk chipped in with 11 rebounds to pace Deptford. Juanya Hines netted 11 points for the Lancers and Brazil Harvey-Carr tallied eight.

• Glassboro 63, Camden Academy Charter 33: Brianna Florentino scored 22 points as the Bulldogs grabbed a commanding 38-19 lead at the half en route to victory. Maci Mazzeo and Alexis Winder tossed in 11 points apiece for Glassboro.

FRIENDS SCHOOLS

• Westtown 43, Moorestown Friends 37: Naomi Jimenez scored 15 to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career and Dagny Davidsdottir added 17 to lead Westtown to victory in the opening round of the Friends School League tournament. Charlotte Stern picked up 17 points for the Foxes and Alyssa Runyan supplied 10.
