Prep Roundup: Offense explodes in win for Sterling

C.J. Barrett and Jayson Bullock drove in three runs apiece and helped power Sterling High School to a 14-3 Colonial Conference baseball victory at Gateway on Friday.

Brandon Jenkins claimed the pitching decision for Sterling after striking out seven batters in five innings. Tyler Blair went 3 for 3 at the plate.

The triumph gave the Silver Knights (10-16) another season with double-digit wins.

TRI-COUNTY

Cumberland 7, Woodstown 0: Hunter Jackson fashioned a complete-game shutout for the Colts, scattering five hits. Nikolas Newmaster drove in three runs, and Anthony Coombs and Carelle Gonzalez scored two runs apiece.

CAPE-ATLANTIC

Millville 8, St. Augustine 6: Paul Harris’ home run helped the Thunderbolts build an 8-3 lead before holding on against St. Augustine, which outhit Millville by 8-4. Teddy Turkali got the win by pitching 5.1 innings.

Ocean City 11, Egg Harbor Twp. 1: Dom Fiorentino (2 RBI), Joe Clifford (RBI) and Josh Arnold each had two hits in the Red Raiders’ nine-hit offense. EHT pitcher Jordan Sweeney went 3 for 3 with two doubles.

St. Joseph 15, Wildwood Catholic 10: The Wildcats broke a 2-2 tie with a seven-run third inning, fueled by Salaam Horne’s 4-for-4 day with four runs scored and two runs batted in. Joe Marino chipped in with two hits, three runs and two RBI.

Cedar Creek 12, Middle Twp. 2: The Pirates took a 4-2 lead into the fifth inning, then scored seven runs pull away. Martin Ortiz doubled in support of pitcher Justin Deissler.
