Boys’ basketball roundup: Rams rally for a victory

Solid defense early in the game combined with a 19-point performance by senior Chris Kain carried Gloucester Catholic High School to a 40-38 thriller over visiting Schalick in Tri-County Conference boys’ basketball on Tuesday night.

Schalick (15-6) managed just 11 points in falling behind by nine at halftime and taking the same deficit into the fourth quarter.

Kain, who enjoyed his second-highest single-game total, also grabbed five rebounds. Eric Grafton contributed eight points and nine rebounds for the Rams (9-10).

• Woodstown 66, Pitman 56: The Wolverines snapped Pitman’s three-game win streak behind Jesse Oscar’s 21 points and Kris Hackett’s 16. Pitman’s Luke Castagna had 23 points with six 3-pointers.

• Salem 42, Penns Grove 41: Salem rallied from an eight-point deficit in the final period, getting a 12-point, 13-rebound effort from Antwan Furbush. Ramon Roots added 12 points and nine boards.

• Hammonton 49, Triton 48: The Blue Devils, led by Marsoreez Bassett’s 15 points, built an 18-point halftime bulge before holding off Triton’s dramatic fourth-quarter rally.

• Cumberland 78, Pennsville 45: The 1-2 scoring punch provided by Casey Ordille (19) and Phil Cisrow (16) steered the Colts.

• Gloucester 59, Deptford 53: Roy Bond gave the Lions 15 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.

OLYMPIC

• Cherry Hill East 61, Camden Catholic 42: Timmy Perry’s 1,000th career point highlighted a game-high 21 points in the Cougars’ victory. Perry, a 6-foot-10 senior, also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked five shots,. Evan Campbell added 14 assists and Joey DiAntonio had 18 points on six 3-pointers.

• Shawnee 68, Lenape 56: The No. 15 Renegades knocked off their district rival as Dean Noll tossed in a game-high 22 points. Dylan Deveney and Pat Kernan added 13 each.

• Cherokee 53, Cherry Hill West 51: The No. 8 Chiefs held off the Lions with balanced scoring by Marcus Lewis-Marshall (11), Zach Rowe (10) and Tyler Tobin (9).

• Paul VI 72, Seneca 58: Lonnie Moore made 9-of-16 shots from the field for 25 points and Voshon Mack chipped in with five rebounds and 19 points for the Eagles.

• Winslow Twp. 64, Eastern 47: Inspired by a 25-11 third-quarter run and Michael Cubbage’s 22-point performance, the Eagles pulled off a surprise against the No. 7 Vikings.

• Cinnaminson 59, New Egypt 56 (OT): Will Cabbler had 18 points and went 4-for-4 at the foul line and Conor Bresnahan added a basket in overtime for the Pirates, who rallied from five points down in the fourth quarter.

• Bordentown 59, Florence 50: The fifth-ranked Scotties led by one point after three quarters before notching the win with balanced scoring by Darnill Brown (14) and Dante Gipson (13).

• Rancocas Valley 65, Burlington Twp. 52: Brenden Ruby had 24 points for the No. 14 Red Devils, who got off to an 18-8 start.

• Pemberton 77, Medford Tech 65: Edwin Rivera piled up 23 points with 11 rebounds and four blocked shots, and teammate Antoine Wilson added 23 points and seven assists for the Hornets.

• Delran 44, Palmyra 41: The Bears built a 25-15 scoring advantage over the two middle periods with help from Quamir Davis’ 17-point game and Matt Murphy’s 15.

• Maple Shade 55, Holy Cross 46: George Harris came within two points of his season high with a 24-point game for the Wildcats, backed by Hafeez Melvin’s 16.

COLONIAL

• West Deptford 56, Collingswood 35: John Barrett came off the Eagles’ bench to score 10 points and support teammate Zach Peterson (14).

• Lindenwold 82, Haddon Twp. 71: The Lions enjoyed their highest scoring game of the season, fueled by Rakim Bryant’s 30 points and five steals. Bryant Geddes added 26 points and five rebounds. Jeb Howley had nine assists and six boards for the Hawks.

• Sterling 46, Audubon 42: Sterling’s Devon Tuten and the Green Wave’s Quitay Long shared scoring honors with 16 points apiece, but the Silver Knights claimed the win with a 14-9 fourth quarter.

• Haddonfield 77, Overbrook 47: Bulldawgs senior Rich Bond scored a season-high 35 points.

• Woodbury 71, Gateway 30: Ja’Zere Noel scored 18 points to pace the Thundering Herd.

• Paulsboro 68, Haddon Heights 60: Tyrique King tossed in 18 points for the No. 11 Red Raiders.

CAPE-ATLANTIC

• St. Augustine 75, Oakcrest 37: The top-ranked Hermits (18-0) battered Oakcrest as Sa’eed Nelson’s 17 points topped a dozen St. Augustine scorers.
