THE DIAMOND REPORT PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sean Mooney, Ocean City

Sean Mooney, Ocean City, Sr., P: The St. John’s recruit has been nothing short of sensational all season. The right-hander is 4-0 with 47 strikeouts in 22 innings, and has yet to give up a run. He’s allowed just four hits – all singles – and also owns a combined no-hitter on opening day and a no-hitter against Vineland in his second outing. Mooney tossed a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts Tuesday in a 9-0 win over Mainland and also hit a home run, this on the heels of a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts against Seneca. He also owns the school record with 21 career victories.

“It’s been great. If I command my fastball and get the off-speed stuff over for strikes, I’m pretty tough to hit. My confidence is through the roof. It’s great to know I can get a bunch of strikeouts and weak contact to help my team win.” – Sean Mooney

“He’s been one of our best players since his freshman year. Whatever we’ve asked, he’s come through with flying colors. From his freshman year to now, he’s just been unbelievable. He’s the best player I’ve ever coached and he just keeps getting better and better on the mound. His curveball is better and he’s worked on the change-up. He’s performed at a high level and our kids are tremendously relaxed with he’s on the mound.” – coach Craig Mensinger
