Police: Intruder shot by Burlington County resident

Courier-Post

FLORENCE A burglar who was shot while invading a township home was hiding in a closet at an apartment complex when authorities found him, police said.

Robert Marshal, 42, was held in Burlington County Jail on several charges, including aggravated assault and burglary.

Florence Township police said he entered a Shaver Drive home through an open garage door around 1 a.m. Sunday, where he was confronted by one of the residents.

A struggled ensued to get Marshal out of the house, during which a male victim was stabbed with a knife, police said. One of the residents fired a gunshot at the intruder, who was struck in the arm, police said.

Officers, aided by a state police K-9 unit, found Marshal nearly 12 hours later, hiding in a closet at the Florence Tollgate Place apartment complex.

Both Marshal and the stabbing victim were treated at a local hospital for injuries that aren’t life-threatening, police said.

Marshall, who also was charged with weapons offenses and obstruction, was held on $200,000 bail.
