Wrestling roundup: Bulldawgs clinch Liberty title

The Haddonfield High School gymasium will have another addition to the championship banners courtesy of the wrestling team.

The Bulldawgs clinched the Colonial Conference Liberty Division title with a 64-9 triumph against Overbrook on Friday.

After losing its conference opener against Paulsboro, Haddonfield rattled off eight straight wins against the rest of its Colonial opponents.

Jack Mooney (106), Cole Pollack (120), Christopher Bolletino (145), Nick Bateman (160), Joe Murray (170) and Frank Fortino (195) had pins for the Bulldawgs.

•West Deptford 66, Haddon Heights 9: The Eagles posted eight pins, including a 27-second fall by Dylan Fischer (126) as the Eagles polished off the Garnets. Cameron Shields (160), Richie Brown (170) and Jason Carter (182) got West Deptford off to a quick start with consecutive falls. The Garnets finished strong as Richie Westhoven earned a 3-2 win over Jarryd Ley at 152.

•Gateway 46, Audubon 16: David Norris (170) recorded a 17-second fall while Ryan Pote (132), Justin Murtaugh (182) and Frank Weyhmiller (220) also produced pins for the Gators. Tim Sparks (126) and Chad Gentzler (152) added technical falls for Gateway.

•Haddon Twp. 49, Sterling 19: After losses in the first two bouts at 220 and 285 pounds, the Hawks got bonus points from 106-pounder Mike Martinak (major decision), 113-pounder Jesse Lang (pin) and 120-pounder Isiah Neal (pin) to establish their lead.

Chris Wolf, The Mat Pack’s third-ranked 132-pounder, pinned Lorenzo Bey in 2:40. Fellow star Jake Alessi pinned Chris Jones in 1:29 at 145 pounds.

BURLCO

•No. Burlington 58, Pennsauken 15: The Greyhounds clinched the Liberty Division outright win a victory over the Indians. After losing the first bout by fall, Northern won the next three bouts with decisions by Tommy Hill (170) and Steven Truex (195) sandwiched around a pin by Fred Miller (182). Vincent Hellthaler produced a 19-second fall for Northern (11-4).

CAPE-ATLANTIC

•Holy Spirit 48, Lower Cape May 14: The Spartans won six consecutive bouts starting at 182 en route to a win over the Caper Tigers. Miachel Waszen’s 15-2 major decision led the winning stretch off while Mason Murphy (195) had a pin and Justin Figueroa (220) and Dominic Sacco (113) added major decisions.

NONLEAGUE

•Holy Cross 42, Shawnee 24: Chase Mullarkey (106) and Avery DiNardi (152) chalked up impressive wins over tough opponents to highlight the Lancers’ win. Mullarkey posted an 11-3 major decision over Ed Morriarity while DiNardi earned a 7-4 decison over Isaiah Bryant in a battle of top 152-pounders in South Jersey.

•Gloucester 57, Atlantic City 9: David Carabello (195) earned an impressive 3-2 win over Amaury Ortiz and Austin Piliro (132) delivered a 12-second fall to power the Lions. David Ott (120), Gavin Unitis (138) and Luis Gonzalez (160) also had falls for Gloucester.

•Pitman 63, Palmyra 15: Nicholas Hionas (106) earned a 9-7 decision in the most competitive bout of the meet.
