West Deptford wrestling coach Christian Scannell.

QUESTION: Should sectional finals be wrestled at a neutral location? Should state finals be wrestled all at the same venue?

CHRISTIAN SCANNELL'S ANSWER: “I don’t think so. It’s not the same as football, especially in South Jersey. Teams travel. We’re not too far away from one another and in our situation we have a pretty good fan base, so if we wrestle at our place or theirs, our fans will travel. It’s more symbolic than a benefit. (On states), that’s a good question, I think when it’s all at the same spot, it becomes a good, big-time event for all the fans. The problem in the past is, is the space itself conducive to that many people? As long as you have the space, I think it’s a great event for the fans. No matter what team they technically support, if they’re going to see Group 2 they can see a great Group 4 match, Group 5 match or non-publics. I’m all for doing what’s best for the sport. I think it’s less about the location and more about those guys and their memories that make a championship moment so special.”
