WATERFORD – A raccoon removed from a Waterford yard Monday tested positive for rabies, according to the Camden County Department of Health.

A township family’s dog killed the raccoon Monday afternoon. Animal control submitted it to the New Jersey Public Health and Environmental Laboratories in Trenton for testing.

Test results determined the raccoon was infected with rabies, the state Department of Health and Human Services reported Thursday.

The dog is current with its rabies vaccinations and received a booster shot. It will be confined and observed for 45 days.
