Police: Man arrested with gun near Camden gas station

CAMDEN – Police said they arrested a man holding a firearm near a gas station minimart on the 2200 block of Admiral Wilson Boulevard.

Anthony Garner, 26, of Philadelphia, faces weapons possession charges in this incident that occurred about 1:45 a.m. Thursday.

Officer Matthew Greer “showed restraint and apprehended the suspect without incident,” the Camden County Police Department said in a news release.

Greer approach Garner after seeing him standing near the minimart with the weapon, police said. Greer used “de-escalation techniques” to convince Garner to drop the weapon, a loaded gas-powered pellet gun, police said.

Garner was held on $10,000 bail in the county jail.

“The poise and restraint demonstrated by Officer Greer are indicative of ethical protector training officers on how to best manage situations such as these,” Police Chief J. Scott Thomson said. “His actions ensured that this potentially volatile incident was resolved peacefully.
