Softball roundup: Gateway’s offense shines on dreary day

It was all systems go for the Gateway Regional High School softball team on a dreary Tuesday afternoon.

The Gators pounded out 20 hits and pitcher Kennedy Whalen racked up 12 strikeouts to help lead her team to a 16-0 win over visiting Lindenwold in a Colonial Conference contest.

Whalen connected on more hits than she allowed, going 4-for-4 with a home run, double and six RBIs against the Lions. The left-hander limited Lindenwold to just three and walked one batter.

Lexi Thomas and Julia Bracken also went 4-for-4 at the plate. Thomas doubled and drove in three runs, while Bracken roped a two-bagger and knocked in a pair of runs for Gateway (8-3).

Melissa Palmer finished with three hits, one a double, and scored two runs in the win.

• Haddon Township 13, Paulsboro 0: Julianna Neel went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and four RBIs to highlight a standout day for the Hawks. Neel picked up the win in the circle as well, striking out six Red Raiders and not allowing a hit over three innings of work.

Emma Acar and Alyssa Angilletta both doubled for Haddon Township, while Jill Caputo drove in a pair of runs in the victory.
