Sanders supporters not sure Clinton has their vote

PHILADELPHIA – Thousands of Bernie Sanders supporters marched Sunday in sweltering heat, waving signs and scream chants of “Feel the Bern!” and “Shut it down!”

But there was one thing that many said they would not do — vote for Hillary Clinton.

A day ahead of the Democratic National Convention in which Clinton is to accept the party's nomination for president, some Sanders supporters said they'd rather cast a ballot for a third-party candidate or skip the election altogether.

Dominique Guyton, 21, of Philadelphia, said she was dissatisfied with the presidential race this year.

“I’m not voting this year,” said Guyton. “They’re two of the worst candidates to choose from. No matter who we choose, this world will not be a better place.”

Bruce Carter, the founder of Black Men for Bernie, an organization that brought an RV and a fleet of minivans emblazone with their logos to Center City, said Hillary Clinton should not assume that Sanders supporters will back her in November.

“She has proven that she is not for the black community,” said Carter.

Sanders campaign worker Andrea Putnam said she understands the disappointment many Democrats feel. “I can understand that, and I have no idea who I’m voting for now,” she said.

“I don’t think this country can survive a Trump presidency,” added Putnam, who said she is considering voting for a third party candidate. “But I would not willingly give my vote to Hillary.”
