Reward increased for city girl's killer

CAMDEN - A reward was increased Monday to $76,000 for the arrest and conviction of a Camden girl's killer.

The payment, which had been boosted to $50,000 on Sunday, is offered for information that solves the slaying of 8-year-old Gabrielle "Gabby" Carter. She was shot in the head while playing on the 900 block of South 8th Street around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police have said the girl was near the intended target of multiple gunmen on the Bergen Square street. She died Friday evening.

Gabby's slaying was the city's 32nd homicide so far this year. Camden had 34 homicides in all of 2015, including two police-related slayings.

Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson has called on the public to help investigators make arrests in the case. The reward has risen steadily since it was introduced at $6,000 Thursday.
