Kendall Elliott, Oakcrest

As part of our look into South Jersey football, we want to know a little bit more about some of the region’s players. Kendall Elliott, a senior QB/DB for Oakcrest, talked over a variety of things with reporter Kevin Minnick.

KM: Where have you seen your biggest growth as a quarterback?

KE: The transition between my sophomore and junior year. The game slowed down for me and I got smarter, made smarter decisions. That’s where I improved.

AROUND THE REGIONS: News and notes from South Jersey gridirons

KM: What are your expectations for the season?

KE: We want to take it game by game. We’re not worried about two weeks from now. We just want that W. Then hopefully we can make the playoffs and a championship game.

KM: Not many can say they were four-year starters. What’s that been like?

KE: It went by quick. I thought it would feel a little longer.

KM: Do you remember your first touchdown pass?

KE: Freshman year. It was against Cedar Creek.

KM: Would you rather throw for a score or run?

KE: Throw one. Throwing it is always nice. I like to feed the rock, I like to see everyone get their shine. It always feels great.

KM: What’s been the key to the team’s 3-0 start?

KE: Our defense and the O-line is giving me time to throw the ball and opening things up to get a running lane. It all starts with the line.

KM: What do like to eat before a game?

KE: We usually have a team dinner, pulled pork or a hoagie to hold us over.

KM: What’s the locker room been like during this winning streak?

KE: There’s a lot of energy, a lot of energy in the school. You can really feel the difference in the hallways. As long as we keep winning, school spirit is going to be up..

KM: What’s your favorite class?

KE: English. I like the people in it, the teacher. There’s a lot of group activities. I just really enjoy it.

KM: Do you have any college plans yet?

KE: No offers yet, but I’ve been in contact with Temple, Villanova, Navy, N.C. State, Central Connecticut. I definitely want to play at the next level.

KM: Who’s the kid that makes you laugh?

KE: It’s has to be my center, Marcel Miller. He’s a funny guy.

KM: Who’s your role model?

KE: I look up to Cam Newton, just the way he carries himself and plays football.

KM: What’s your go-to snack?

KE: Doritos … Cool Ranch.

KM: When your season is over, how do you want to be remembered?

KE: Hard working, always gave all he had and always put his team in the right position to succeed.
