"There is no more information available about the suspect at this time," police said. "An active investigation is underway."

"Alcohol and drugs are sometimes used to create vulnerability to sexual assault and may impair … judgment," the warning said. "Studies of sexual assault incidents show a high correlation between acquaintance rape and drug/alcohol usage."

The school also urged students to "have a companion or a safe means of getting home." It noted safety escorts are provided on campus at all hours.

"Sex offenses are treated with the greatest seriousness at our university," the statement said, noting "criminal and/or severe disciplinary action can be taken."

"If a criminal case is brought, we will support victims as much as possible as they pursue it."
