State removes Ancora's top doctor, nurse

Ancora Psychiatric Hospital's medical director lost his job, and the chief nursing officer faces an administrative hearing Tuesday.

WINSLOW TWP. - Ancora Psychiatric Hospital's medical director lost his job, and the hospital's chief nursing officer is facing an administrative hearing Tuesday, according to the state Department of Human Services.

Dr. David B. Roat had worked for the state for 13½ years before he was dismissed last Wednesday. No reason was given for the decision. As of Monday, no actions had been taken against his medical license by the state Board of Medical Examiners. Roat's salary was $214,424.

Catherine D. Jones, a registered nurse, was taken off duty last Wednesday and could also lose her job. She has been suspended with pay for conduct unbecoming a public employee and insubordination, said Ellen Lovejoy, a state spokeswoman. Jones had worked for the state for five years; her salary was $125,000.
